And that went fast – Summer. What the heck happened? How is it possible you are leaving us so soon? It seem like you were only a blur this year. Anyone else feel this way?
Oh, I know we can all be too busy – but this time of year I stop to smell the roses. Literally! I always say that is the sun is out…I’m out. Only this year the sun was elusive, the weather was wet, often smokey and incredible humid! And a lot of the blooms literally rotted on the bush. Yes, I know you know but I feel obligated to complain a bit more and remind you too. But enough of that.
However, it was a great summer of family activities with family visiting from near and far. Two trips to PEI – AKA heaven on earth!
We took Trixie Doodle Doggie with us on one of the Island adventures and she learned how to dog not the beach! She loved the freedom of running in the water and chasing the seagulls. Lots of potential painting materials from our days on the beaches.
Meanwhile, in the studio and available commissions for Christmas
Work in the studio was consistent albeit on the slow side. I completed two secret commissions and am still working on a major commission piece – my largest oil painting ever! This means I have only a few spaces available for Christmas Commissions so if you have an idea for a painting please reach out soon so you won’t be disappointed.

Lessons learned

Clear gesso is incredible hard on your brushes if you don’t sand it. And I don’t. I really like the tooth it creates on the birch panels.

If you “forget” neglect to clean your palette after each painting session – well it becomes increasingly difficult with each passing day
Recent Plein Air paintings
Not a lot of studio time but that is quite typical for me this time of the year. Some Plein Air adventuring. Completed a couple of my all time favourite Plein Air paintings. I think it was because I was able to capture a couple of sunny days.
