I’ve been keeping busy with lots of works developing in my home studio. I am so grateful to be able to have this creative space and be able to keep nice and warm painting.
Fresh off the easel:
Choppy Waters
Oh the joy I experienced painting this one. I loved the freedom of arm movements painting the waves. Felt like I was dancing.
The reference photos for this painting were taken at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy. The place where the Atlantic starts to flow into a channel between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and forming the Bay. This area is not far from Old Sow Whirlpool which is the second-largest tidal whirlpool on earth. Lots of water movement in this area.
It was truly a beautiful day with bright summer sunshine and gentle breezes. Here, at this point, the currents were strong and the water was quite choppy. In typical fashion I proceeded to take far more reference photos that I could possibly ever use knowing I’d be painting this!
The colour and shapes of the water really struck me. The deep shades, soft blues and green and turquoise.

Sharing Secrets
Sometimes my paintings name themselves as this one did. This painting also told me a story. I love it when this happens.
The young crow was hesitant – she loved sitting on the wire with her mama – she really did not want to fly to the ground alone. There were many larger crows gathered on the ground.
The mother crow encouraged her daughter – you can do it – you can fly. With that the younger crow left its mothers side and flew to the ground. Mama crow looked down from the wire with a look of pride. See, I told you you could do it. You were born to fly.

News from the Studio:
Master Procrastinator is at it again! I finally launched a print shop. After much characteristic procrastination at an impressive level, I finally hit publish. And true to my nature of putting things off – I neglected to tell anyone about it. I have added a few images for limited edition giclees. If there is an image you are interested in and do not see it, please use the contact form on this site to send me an email.
Introducing Trixie Doodle Doggy
We adopted the sweetest doggo ever. I have always lived with animals in my home. Other than our aquarium and pond, the past few years have been fur free. So happy to have a studio shadow once again.
Rejection
It happens to all of us. I entered a local Call to Artists about a show with a water theme. I thought it would be a good fit as I have a lot of work already painted. No entry fees required so I thought it was worth a shot and entered. It took a month to hear back and yes, I was rejected.
The interesting thing was that I was not really surprised, only disappointed. Once upon a time I would have taken this so personally. Now it’s simply a whatever. And that is really great – I’m evolving and getting thicker skin. Oh the art world is full of surprises.
YouTube Channels:
Oh, the many journeys of an artist. We do research, take reference photos, sketch, debate colours and values among ourselves, study the works and techniques of others, and sadly we have to navigate multiple scams but most of all – we try to understand Social Media with all the opportunities and tribulations they present. However, Dale Cook and I have been having fun learning how to produce and edit videos for YouTube that feature our natural banter and laughter. I (we) really appreciate you visiting.
