Transitions, it’s about time

I think that I have shared before that I am a Master Procrastinator. Not just a get around to it someday kind – but a certified master procrastinator.

And omigoodness have I ever proven it again this year. I know how important it is to keep in touch with everyone and to create content for my site. It’s just I let myself get so tangled up in the art of being busy that I lost my sense of direction. Oh and the crazy heat. I mean who can do anything with that kind of heat and humidity!

It’s About Time

A number of times I started to create a newsletter type of post. Started and stalled. Started and stopped. and restarted….

To be honest creating content on social media takes a lot of time and it is now considered part of your role as an artist. And I love writing…. And yet, I procrastinate

Busy. Did I mention busy? It was the kind of busy I longed for all those years of painting around my day job. Full on concentrating on my painting career – travelling my treasured work from this location to that one. Painting as much as I could possibly. Dreaming about painting. Talking about painting. I have finally landed in my dream space as a full time painter!

Wonderfully busy kind of summer

Grand Manan Helen.jpeg

2021 was about preparing for two collaborative exhibitions with my good friend and plein air buddy Dale Cook. Two shows this summer with a requirement for two bodies of work. So blessed for the opportunity that these shows presented and secretly surprised with the amount of work I was able to accomplish (insert blush emoji).

Sand in Our Shoes

The first exhibit “Sand in Our Shoes” was held in the beautiful Grand Manan Art Gallery. The show may be previewed here: Sand in Our Shoes

Waters Edge

The second exhibit “Waters Edge” was held at the Ice House Gallery in Tatamagouche, NS. This curated show may be viewed here: Waters Edge

The Joy of Watercolour

I also had the opportunity to lead a watercolour workshop at Sunbury Shores Art and Nature Centre at the end of July – The Joy of Watercolour. This really meant a lot to me. A few years ago (ahem, well ok a number of years ago) I had the privilege of winning a scholarship for a wildlife art workshop in watercolour. This was game changing for the teenage me. Not only did it reaffirm my love of animals and art but opened a whole world of painting at a professional level. Never, ever did I ever dream such a thing was possible.

We worked on gray scale, the importance of value, plein air painting, poured watercolours and a project of their own selection. We had a busy five days together.

Society of Canadian Artists

This year I’ve been fortunate to have been included in a few online juried exhibitions. Below are two of the shows that are currently active.

Finally able to travel once again

I have to admit I was unsure of what to expect of travelling once again. Wondered about the airport experience and even flying. I literally had no idea of what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. Travel felt safe for the most part. I am happily visiting with my daughter’s family in BC. Was here to see my grandsons go back to school. Two birthdays! And engage in some seriously fun play times. Taking lots of photos. Gathering lots of ideas and reference photos. Getting some girl time. Life is good!

Until next time – Cheers
